Stage 3: Vision

At the Vision stage, future scenarios are developed collaboratively by all relevant stakeholders using the Socio-technical Scenarios tool to determine where the organisation wants to be at the end of the digital change process. Two or three alternative scenarios can be developed to explore different options before deciding on the preferred way forward. The chosen scenario serves as the compass guiding the next stages and involves crafting a narrative of what the organisation should look like, including its structure, processes, jobs, skills, and culture necessary to thrive in this future scenario. Although technology is considered, it should not be the driving force of the change.

The Socio-technical Scenarios workshop discussion can help to illuminate key support structures that should be provided as part of the digital change process to reach the desired future scenario. For example, it might be suggested that job performance would be boosted more quickly if employees receive training on how to use new technologies before they are implemented. It can be helpful to note such suggestions at this stage as they can be further elaborated during the Action Plan stage.
